Jono's Travels
Not a good sleep last night, kept awake by people on our tour shouting out windows and chatting and laughing all night until about 5:30am, this kept me awake most of the night and not falling asleep properly until about 6am, although that didn't help as I had to be ready for breakfast by 8am, I think all up I had about 3 hours sleep. Still, lots to see today as I have to make the most of my time here. What better way than for the fantastic five to get out and about and see the sights. We headed off to the train stop and caught the number 12 train which we had been told to catch... One problem, we hadn't been told which stop to get off at, so we took a gamble and got off where we thought we needed to get off. I'm not saying we got off at the wrong stop, but I think there may have been a much closer stop to get off at as we ended up being at the bottom of the hill from the palace. Either way, we were where we were and we just needed to figure out a way there. We headed down the hill a little and found something that looked like it may belong to the palace, perhaps an entrance... Turns out that no it wasn't, it was Waldstein Gardens, which is about a 1km walk from the castle. We took a look around the garden and saw some huge goldfish, I mean like real big, found a white peacock up in a tree, before making our way toward the castle only to detour into another church (Saint Nicholas Church), I'm beginning to get a little churched out, so many churches, some good to look around, others not that great at all. This church however was one of the nice ones, we could even take photos inside. Really high ceiling and some lovely artwork painted on the top, statues everywhere and lots of gold colours which just makes it look more impressive, this was also one of the first churches which I have been too which allowed us to walk up to the second level and look around up there, most of them are purely just closed off to the public, we headed up and began looking around when a security guy just started to follow us around, which was strange as there wasn't really anything we could do except lean over the edging and there was plenty of signage up am saying not to. We headed off again and this time made it to the stairs that lead to the palace, after the lack of sleep last night the stairs did not look appealing at all, as there was a lot of them. Eventually making it to the top we took a few moments to rest and get some pictures, turns out that we had arrived at what must have been a time for the police officers graduation or something like that as they were all marching and assembling in a particular part of the palace. We saw the changing of the guard and then went and brought tickets to take a look at some of the things inside the palace. As we went to go inside the Saint Vitus Cathedral we ran into Tall Julia (we have two now), so we invited her to join us for the day. She headed off and grabbed a ticket and joined us just as we were heading in. The cathedral was incredibly large inside and had some amazing stain glasses windows. We continued to look around before heading out and making our way around some other parts of the palace. We went down one part of it which had a heap of armour and ancient weapons, while you could touch some of the weapons, all the armour was stuck behind glass. We left the palace and made our way down to the John Lennon wall which had lots of messages and pictures painted onto it, although apparently a few months ago a couple of people had come through and painted the entire thing white, so all the artwork and messages on it now are newly painted. From there it was off to get something to eat as we hadn't eaten all day, well some had breakfast but not me. After lunch we made our way across the bridge that we were shown last night and made our way to the Jewish Cemetery, which are just some of the graves of the Jewish that died or were killed, The cemetery was full of gravestones, so many that I would never be able to count them. I was astounded as to just how many there were. We then headed off to the Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock to watch the clock do its hourly thing before heading to the top of the tower to get a view over the city. The view was rather nice but as it was so crowded, it was a bit hard to get around to get a good picture from the top. Once our view from the top was done, we headed down to get something to eat again before heading back to the hostel, we ended up sitting down at a table with a guy from America who just liked to talk about when he was there 30 years ago and he pulled out a bunch of photos from his trip there all that time ago. He was ether just happy to talk to someone, or just rally likes talking. We then headed back to the hotel where we tried to rest or get on to the wifi. As the wifi was pretty weak in our room, and the fact the room was so extremely hot, I headed downstairs to reception where it was a bit cooler and had better wifi. As I was finished with wifi and had already chatted to a bunch of people who had gone to bed, I was about to head to bed when two guys ran into reception saying someone broke into their room with a stick and looked like he was going to beat them with it. The staff got onto the security cameras and sent the security guy up with the two guys but they couldn't find him. Seeing there wasn't much to do I decided to head to bed. As I got to my floor I found some guy knocking on doors, I asked him if he was ok and he said he was looking for a friend, I waited around for a bit and then headed back down to reception to tell the security guys he was on our floor. They headed up and caught the guy. I hung around and waited to see what was going to happen, looks like he has been caught on camera once before in the past, but they didn't actually catch him, so they are going to have to try and get security footage from the last time as well as this time and give it to the police. I then headed off to bed a little before 12am to try and get a good nights rest for a change.
