Jono's Travels
Struggle to wake this morning, I could have quite happily stayed asleep for some time if it wasn't for the need to get up to get onto the bus, for today we head to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The travel time will be used as per normal to catch up on the daily blogs which I've been trying to do as soon as I can, but time is short. Getting out of bed this morning wasn't the only trouble I had this morning, I have also found the legs are suffering from all the walking carried out the day before. I grabbed my bags and headed up the bus while everyone went to get breakfast, dropped my bags of and dos some stuff on the wireless while it was still good, until people started arriving and the the wifi turned terrible again, it's a shame as I was 50% of the way through getting what I needed. We stopped in Zadar on the way, a little town approximately 50km away from the lakes, we walked down the coast line and could hear music playing from what they call a Sea Organ, it's a little instrument which was built to work with the waves which push the air out through holes and slots in the staircase and on the pathway. There were also some large solar panels which during the day collect the light and at night time the power is used to create a light show, which we won't get a chance to see as we will be heading off at 4pm to the lakes. I headed off from there to get some food with Meg, Tim, Damien and Lieu, from there I continued on to find a pharmacy to get some new ear drops as I had lost my other ones. I eventually found a pharmacy and went in, they had ear drops which was good, similar to the stuff I already had but this one had an actual dropper which meant I had more control over getting the drops into the actual ear. I did ask if they had antibiotic pills, but I was unable to get these without a prescription. From there I headed back to one of the towers in Zadar which we are able to climb (for a small fee of course), but on the way noticed some young lady looking in my direction waving at me, I was thinking who is this, she must be waving at someone behind me. I soon realised that she was walking with Elouise, Fabian and Tim then I clicked that it was Kat, who was on the tour with us until Rome. Kat has family in Zadar and decided to move there before she started our trip. As she speaks Croatian and has been there a few times, it was a easy choice for her to move there. She looked really settled already, I guess having 2 weeks there already she would feel quite comfortable there. She took us to a couple of spots and then we headed to a restaurant to get something to eat and drink. As I had already eaten I just got a drink while the others had their meals. It was about 3:30 so I decided I had better head off to the tower and get a look over the town before we left. I got to the tower and found that it was 15Kuna which is about NZ$3, what a bargain. Actually living here is extremely cheap, talking to Kat her cousin pays about 300 Kuna a month for rent which is about NZ$65. I guess it is all relative in terms of wages etc. I got to the top of the tower and came across Tall Ryan sitting down taking in a bit of the view, he said he would wait for me so I rushed to the top and took some pictures before heading back down. We met at the meeting point and continued on our way, eventually getting within a couple of Kms only to find a large backlog of traffic, as we are sitting there I hear "Jonathan, you like to run don't you", so I headed off up the road and Conner tagged along so we could try and find out what was going on... We got about 1km up the road to find firemen washing the road, I suspect it was oil or some other kind of liquid being washed away due to a car accident or something. We headed back and got back on the bus as it looked like it wasn't going to be long before it was cleaned up. After getting back we were on the road writhing about 5 minutes, 5 minutes later we were at the campground. We did our own thing for the next hour or two, for me it was getting on the wifi and getting the rest of my download that I had started earlier in the morning, from there I headed off for a shower before heading off to get something. To eat and then heading off to meet the other TopDeck group for a Punch Party... Drinking punch. We played a few drinking games and had a good time, meet a few from New Zealand, 2 from Christchurch and 1 from from Hawkes Bay. I left at around 11pm and headed off to my room and then deciding to get onto the wifi and finishing this blog. Apparently we have a big day tomorrow, so being 11:43 I think I'll finish here and go to bed.
