As we drove into Queenstown we went past a bungy jump i was really tempted to do it just to get it over and done with.. but i soon changed my mind when i got up there in the viewing bit, maybe another time!
we booked ourselves in a 4 star hotel for Christmas as a treat (i know its not budget traveling but it is Christmas) it was lovely it had great views, a gym, spa suana , swimming pool and the best thing ever Sky tv in the room it made a difference just to be able to chill out in the room. it was really nice.
The next day we checked into the youth hostel for for 2 nights, our room was empty when we got there so we dropped our bags off and then went to buy some drink so we could have some before we went out. We went to one pub where the barman was giving us free shots of this honey whisky it was quite nice. Then we went to the Minus 5 Bar, where everything is made of ice the seats, tables glasses everything!! your only allowed in there for 30minutes at a time and they give you a warm coat gloves and hats to wear in there. So we got kitted out and went in, it was like a massive frezzer with a bar inside and there were loads of ice sculpturs in there it was really good and we had freezing vodka cocktails served in ice glasses, it was a really cool experience. after here we went to another bar for a few drinks and then went for some pizza, Kris was wrecked by this time and nearly falling asleep in the pubs like a local wino which was quite funny. at the end of the night we went to a casino to try our luck, we played roulette and black jack and walked away a few $$$s down, Fuming
That night we had the worst sleep our room mate was like a pig the loudest snorer ever it was horrible, we asked if we could swap into a private room for the next night but the hostel was full. So we were off to the nice hotel for another night damn! we are not looking forward to going back to the tent after this.
Today (Boxing Day) we went White Water Rafting it had been raining the night before and the morning rafting had been canceled because of the water level being too high but it got better by the afternoon. so our one was fine and because of the water level it was perfect for white water rafting, there is different levels of white water rafting 1- 6 level 1 flat water, level 6 unraftable ours was level 5! Bring it on. We got picked up by a mini bus and taken to get kitted out wetsuit, life jacket, paddle and helmet. then we got taken by bus to the start of the rapids we had to go along Skipers Canyon which is all these mountain roads with 200 metre drops each side, when we hirewd the car we were told that our car wasnt covered to drive on this road because its so dangerous. So that was quite scary.
The White water rafting was really cool, and our guide was the best one of the group so when e said paddle i did it like mad! and then sometimes he would shout get down so you would have to jump down into the raft to stop it tipping over! we got to one part of the rapids and we were told that we could swim down a little bit, so i was the first one in the water again. Swimming the rapids was really cool but it was a nightmare trying to pull yourself back into the raft and kris nearly drifted of with the current so i had to go and rescue her you know me!!
after the rafting we went back to the office where we could have a sauna and a shower while they were printing the photos we bought one and as soon as i work out how to get it on here you lot will see it.
today we got a gondola up to the top of wueenstowns mountain it has got the best views and a luge track which is abit like a tricycle me and kris went on the scenic track but we had a race and we were like boy racers zooming down undertaking people, it was close but i one!
the next day we went canyoning, we had to hike up a hill for about 35 minutes the zip wire across to the other side i was like actionman! then we had to slide down waterfalls jump off cliffs into rock pools and do abit of rock climbing. i was the crash test dummie, i was the first one to do everything. on one of the jumps i stepped onto the edge and just froze it was about 20metres up right next to a waterfall and you had to jump exactly where they were telling you or you would land on the rocks either side! i just thought f**k it and just took a run up and jumped it was a well good feeling when i hit the water and didnt break my back.
Im getting right into all thse extreme sports!
didnt get brave enough to do a bungy jump though will have to do it somewhere else.
