Ok so we went to Matamata a one horse town in the middle of nowhere and their claim to fame was that Peter Jackson chose a farm there to film the Hobbit scenes in The Lord of the Rings. So we booked ourselves on the tour and got bussed out to the farm, where the hobbit holes still are. the hobbit holes are good but it does take some imagination to picture what it looked like in the film becasue most of the set was ripped down after filming.
New Zealand took this film very seriously, any person who worked up the farm had to sign a contract that he wouldnt say ehat was being filmed there until it the film came out, The New Zealand army were drafted in to build a road across the farm which could handle all the people coming and going, they also had to build a bridge which was used in the film and no air traffic could fly over this farm for the time being of filming. And one scene f the film peter jackson hired loads of students to stick on artifical leaves on to a dead oak tree to make it look alive and that tree was in the finished picture for about 3 seconds!
How crazy is that!
