ITS IANS BIRTHDAY!
Woke up after the storm to find out that I had left the lights on the car all night! DOH! So we had absolutley no power whatsoever! We had to go out in the horizontal rain and the wind and try and flag down a car. Although we had water proofs on we were still getting drenched. We were soaked through after about 2 minutes. The most annoying part about it was that people would just wave as you signalled in distress. Finally though someone did stop and have some jump leads.
We were back on the road and heading towards the Great Ocean Road. The weather was crappy but we were still looking forward to it. We saw the 12 Apostles (although theres only about 7 left), the London Bridge, the Grotto and the Bay of Islands. It was really impressive, all the more so due to high surf.
We got about half way across the Great Ocean Road where we had to turn back and take a detour. The winds from the previous night were apparently so strong that they had taken down many trees. We had to go inland by about 100k's to Colac before getting back on the freeway and onto Melbourne.
Wee eventually arrived into Melbourne and into the caravan park in Willimamstown (South Melbourne) about 6ish, it was a quick turn around and then onto Transport the pub in Federation Square. It was so nice to be back and it brought back alot of hazy memories from the Commonwealths. That night we headed to the Crown Casino as well. Epic times.
On the 7th of November was the Melbourne Cup but as we didn't have any smart clothes we didn't bother going to the races. We did however watch it in the pub. It was a really good day out. Ians horse came first winning him a nice $230. Jammy! The party went well into the night!
