So the head was a bit sore waking up early on Wednesday morning but we were both pretty excited about the day ahead as we set off on the drive back inland.
We stopped off at the Moeraki boulders, basically just a load of big, round rocks in the sand, and got a bacon butty which was GOOD!
The road into Mount Cook village was another cracker and we passed lakes and rivers that were the bightest turquoise you have ever seen and despite having seen loads of gorgeous ones throughout the scenery in NZ, we both agreed that these were probably the best ones yet!
We checked in to the hotel-cum-hostel at the foot of the mountains, which was another pretty cool one, especially with the huge bean bags!! After the latest in a line of c*** ups by the bus during the last week, were were thankful that we weren't one of the ones to miss out on the Glacier Experience trip, with the guy from the hostel not having a clue how to deal with the mess up and so literally adopting an every man or himself solution by simply saying the first to get on the shuttle bus were the ones who could go!
We had a nice little walk to the start, or strictly speaking the end, of the glacier and got in our little boat for a bit of cruising in and out of icebergs! It was something totally different to anything we had done before and was yet another brilliant afternoon where we gazed around from inside the boat at our surroundings and were pretty amazed!!!
The milky water of the glacial lake that we were cruising around was absolutely freezing, but a couple of us managed to brave it to haul out a mini iceberg into the boat! We were even treated to some loud rock crashing off the top of the Tasman glacier into the lake just in front of us, as well as seeing some freshly 'rolled' icebergs which had some brilliantly ice blue and white colours!
Weaving between icebergs of all different shapes ans sizes and colours was another awesome thing that we have done, even if by the time we had to endure over an hours wait for tea back at the hostel we were pretty knackered and ready for bed!
In the morning I got up early and made myself right at home in the middle of the TV room with bean bags piled high around me to watch the United match, and it was a pretty sweet feeling to have the early morning sun shining in on me, together with snow covered Mount Cook as my view out of the window! Having watched United in all kinds of places, I reckon I can safely say that is the most spectacular setting so far!!Just as the bus was about to leave. Hutch had to come in and grab me, and we set off on our final journey on The Stray to Christchurch, our last stop in NZ!
