Jonny & Katie's Round The World Trip 2010/11
We left the surroundings on the Abel Tasman National Park on Sunday morning, but only after planting a group tree!
We spent a lot of the day travelling on the bus, but it was made better than your average bus journey by the stunning scenery of the West coast. The landscape since we hit the South island has been spectacular, and it's only gonna get better!
We made a couple of stops during the day - firstly at Cape Foulwind where we did a little walk to try and see a seal colony and then at Punakaiti pancake rocks and blowholes. In both places there was a kind of isolated tranquil feel and it felt really nice to be at the far corner of the world going from one amazing scene to the next.
For the evening we had probably the strangest night of the trip so far as we stayed in the 'settlement' of Barrytown (Baz Vegas to the locals) - where a grand total of 45 people live!! Goodness knows who came up with the idea of having it as a stop, but the whole day basically builds up to a big fancy dress themed night in the pub!
Our theme for the night was to create your own Super Hero and we had stopped off at Warehouse (shock!) during the day to try and accessorise. Much to Hutch's disappointment, we were both able to get hooked up with some big colourful superhero pants, and I was particularly pleased with my XL pink hotpants which even had my adopted slogan on: "I'm like a butterfly.......hard to catch!". My happiness and Hutch's roll of the eyes were as you would expect!!
So after accessorising Rainbow Girl with a eye mask and shield (and obviously rainbow knee length toe socks- survival kit coming in handy yet again), and Mr Butterfly with some shiny silver wings and feelers (our room with Emma and Jen was definately the most original!) our costumes were ready to go and we got involved with the beer pong and flip cup drinking games!!
Needless to say it got a bit messy (Rainbow Girls super powers don't seem to extend to downing beer!) with plenty of dancing on tables, and it was a good job we had our first real lie in the following day to recover! In the awards dished out by Hoff the following morning, I won one for best outfit - tho I do have to give a lot of the credit to my costume designer Hutch (who deserves more praise for her efforts given that for obvious reasons she did not want me to dress up as a butterfly in the first place!) Only problem is that it's quite difficult to share a t-shirt with Barrytown on, and as nearly all my tops have either moth holes, dirt from the jungle or gone baggy in the wash I have to keep it for myself!! (bad times).
