Do You Wanna be in My Gang, MY GAAAAAAAANG. Hello from Vung Tao in Southern Nam, Gary Glitters old haunt where he was famously caught out fiddling about with youngsters back in 2005. Which is quite creepy as the Vietnamese for Thank You is Cam Ern pronounced in English as Gaam Oon. I only remember the pronunciation as the whole time I have been in Nam I have been breaking out into COME ON COME ON COME ON COOOOOOME ON after everytime I say it lol!
Anyway after what happened with Glitter here we expected it to be quite a seedy little beach town but were quite keen to see it for at least a day and it did break up the journey to our next stop Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
We left Mui Nea at 5:30am on a Public bus which again was pack to the rafters, people with little children's stools sitting up the aisle when all the fixed seats were full lol. We arrived in VT around 11:30 and wandered off to find a hotel. We eventually found a nice cheap hotel near the beach front and dumped the bags to head out for lunch and check out the surroundings. It was actually quite nice here, nothing like we expected, relatively clean beach with the main attraction in the city being a 30ft Statue perched on top of a hill of Jesus Christ.
Found a Hotel to eat in on beachfront which was quite good and then decided to walk along the beach toward the hill where the statue was perched. The Jesus statue is 30Ft tall perched on a small hill overlooking the ocean to one side and the city in the other. Statue is exactly like the one in Rio with his arms spread out and our guide book actually calls Vung Tao - Rio de Vietnam. It was not scorching but a quite humid heat so on the walk to the top we were both sweating buckets but the climb was worth it. The statue was quite impressive, and we were even aloud to climb up inside to walk out on walkways stretching along the statues arms. I say we, but it was just me that got to go up as the Guard at the foot of the statue did not approve of B's denim shorts so she was refused entry up. To say she was peeved would be a wee bit of an under statement lol. Anyhoo I enjoyed the views and took plenty of pictures of the surroundings which were as equally impressive as the statue.
We then strolled back from the hill to our Hotel where we were both quite tired so had a little power nap and discussed what we were going to do the following day. We decided as nice as VT is, we think we'd prefer to head the following day instead of lingering about doing nothing which we did a lot of in the previous place - Mui Nea. To confirm our decision the weather took a turn for the worse around 6/7pm and our receptionist told us it was not the best forecast for the next few days so we are definitely just staying the 1night. With it raining quite hard for supper we just went to the corner shop next door to our hotel and bought the Vietnamese version of a pot noodle that our hotel provided chop sticks to eat with lol. It was actually quite good and are both pro's at using the C-Sticks now with the countries we have been in so was no problem.
We are getting an early bus tomorrow to the capital of Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City previously known and still called Saigon by most locals. It is only 2hours drive away but have been told due to the huge amount of traffic it normally turns into double that so can't wait for another Sardine tin of a bus to take us the journey lol the joys of traveling eh. City will be jam packed with Mopeds and are both expecting nothing but hussle and bussle so hopefully our next blog will have plenty to keep our loyal readers amused hahaha.
Until Saigon folks,
I'm Jonny and she's Brishay.
