The drive to hell and the flight to paradise
We were awoken at 6.30 am ,but we had been woken earlier then that by an elephant within meters of our tent, knocking over small trees and breaking branches off others so it could feed on the sweetness of the sap.
We had breakfast said our goodbyes hopped in the van with our driver, whose name is Moses and headed by dirt track and bitumin to Nairobi. This is possibly the worst driving experience Shirley or I have ever encounter. The driver was fantastic ,but I think that road rule maybe non existence . There are trucks overtaking on hills car and trucks passing on blind curves,it was not a trip for the faint hearted. Four hours later we arrived in Nairobi and were we happy to get out of that van at the Wilson airport
The plane was a small 12 seater with only 3people on it,us and one others. We arrived at Mara north airport 30minutes early, our guide arrived 15minutes later. The drive to the base camp Kicheche was outstanding , we had been driving. for a short while ,when there ,just lying on the edge of the track were two Hyena and their cubs, they look just like they do on the documentaries ,funny that. We saw the usually Giraffes, Zebra ,Impala wilder beast ,then suddenly on top of a grassy knoll was this magnificent female lion cub possible 7-12months old , just sitting in the warmth of the sun, this is one of the reasons we are here ,and we have seen a lion on our first trek to base camp .
The camp is different to our first camp but the tent is of top quality, the view from our tent is breath taking ,looking out we can see most of the animals we saw on our way in, two big umbrella trees are to the left of the doorway and a little stream gently running making this a tranquil setting. The inside of the tent is similar to the other one just a bit more fancy ,flashing toilet ,shower (hot) double bed, and a few other extras
We are looking forward with great excitement to our early morning safari , my expectation is high after this afternoon's happening.
More news tomorrow , bye for now
Luv shirley & John
