Up a 6 am. To catch plane to Kenya's Eselenkei conservation area to stay at a camp called Porini and arrive at lunch time.We landed at a dirt strip and were met by 4 Maasai warriors who loaded our gear into the open four wheel drive along with us and two other ,their names being Tom and Lyn who will be our safari partners for the next 2days.
We all have no idea what was about to happen as we drove to the camp, our driver, Andrew would stop and point out the types of birds around us and there were many.
The drive to the camp was to take 20 minutes, end up taking 2 hrs , after a few African animals decided to pop by to say hello .The first was a Thomas gazelle,as cute as a button fawn hide with black and white marking we are all very excited, we continue on and whom should come out of the bush but a female ostrich, slowly elegantly strutting her self pass us,stops on cue to have her photo taken, amazing.Off we go heading for the base camp, just go a short distance when a herd of Grant gazelles appeared these are slightly bigger then then the Thomas ,do you think we are excited absolutely.
25 minutes into the trip and the call of Wow was heard, expectation and there to our left was three of the most majestic animal Africa must have giraffes, omg sensational.I could carry on with the description but there so much to tell so I will just name the array of animal that took their turn in saying hello. The Impala, the beautifully male ostrich, the zebra, the worthog, the Eland, this is the size of a fully grown Brahma bull, not bad for our first safari in Kenya. We arrive at the camp 2hrs after we started ,got settled in to our tent, toilet shower double bed and solo power lighting not bad for tent.
No time to waste we are off to the Maasai village for our cultural experience. These people are primitive, houses made like the three little pig ,sticks and mud ,they don't leak,Shirley could live here as she did not have to bend to enter.
Maasai warrior are not as tall as made out to be , one was as short as Shirley and not all of them can jump.
That all for today but we have been told tomorrow will be even better, how could that be,
Bye for now
Luv Shirley & John
