One of the greatest treasures of its kind, the Book of Kells is an illuminated religious manuscript from the medieval period. Written in Latin, it contains the four Gospels of the New Testament and would have been crafted by the Celtic monks in the Columban monastery on Iona, circa 800.
The manuscript was removed from Kells c. 1653 for safekeeping, but it was most likely not until sometime after 1661 that it came into the collections of the Library at Trinity College. Over 500,000 people each year visit the Book of Kells
When this tour was over I went straight into another tour around the Temple Bar area, through big market, back streets and final to Dublin Castle. Today it is used for political entertainment and it was Constructed in the early thirteenth century on the site of a Viking settlement, Dublin Castle served for centuries as the headquarters of English, and later British, administration in Ireland. In 1922, following Ireland's independence, Dublin Castle was handed over to the new Irish government, you maybe wondering where Shirley was ,while all this was going.Shirley had a hair appointment so only stayed to see the book of Kells. Our last supper in Ireland we chose to have at Boxty a Restaurant in the temple bar area . What is a Boxty (Irish: bacstaí) is a traditional Irish potato pancake, wrapped around garlic steak cooked to medium rare and gravy it suddenly becomes a fantastic dish.pictures may tell the story.
Ok off to Scotland tomorrow
see you then
