Day 17 15/9/2018
We set sail on a new Adventure
We are both up early ,excited at the prospects of what lies ahead. Our next adventure was to be begin ,a person was coming to take us to the boat so we can sail the Adriatic ocean ,island hopping from day to day for next 7 days.
We are dropped at the boat , waiting ,waiting ,Shirley getting impatient ,so we ask one of the crew can we come on board. Our cabins weren’t ready, so we could get aboard but had sit at the back of the boat on the lower deck. We are due to go to on a walking tour of the palace at 9 am and it seems that we are the only ones. Our guides name was Anton ,a tall stinky man ,nice guy . He walked us around and explained the history of the palace, and there was some and more, it help paint the picture of the past. We beginning traditionalist say goodbye to Split the way the Roaman would have , with the fruit of the Gods, a lovelyCroatian white.
The boat set sail at 1 before we leave Ana the cruise director gives the safety talk, introduces everyone by calling their room number, then does the do and the dont, take about an hour , within minutes we’re off.
Straight away I can feel this is going to be a very relaxing 7 days the vib between the all Australian passengers is good all seem to be season travellers , all with stories to tell . We’ve been moving for a while and the the boat slows and there in front of us is this little island beach ,we anchor and then the last one in is a rotten egg ,it here when all of us bonded as this was fun that all could share either in the Adriatic or out.we swam for about 45 minutes, only because it was a little cold and the current started to race and being older it became tougher to swim.
Our port for the night is the island of Hvar and we dock in the town of Stari Grad, by now it is 6.30 . We all pull on some glad rags and head ashore, this town I discover has been around since 1563 . Shirley and I stroll around looking for a restaurant called Antica, and just when we though it no longer existed down this alley way , past this crazy art shop ,and right in the back corner we find it, thank goodness we did. Antica was a rustic, enjoyable , and pleasant eatery ,with beautiful authentic Croatian food, where service was a way of life , if you ever come on this tour to me it is a must.
Bellies full , tradition upheld it back to the boat ,up to the 1st deck and we sit and swop stories and the state of the world with the other guests.
Well that’s our first day done we are off to bed , great game between South and Saints but neither will win from here ,to many missed tackles and errors.
Love from Shirley and John.
