Nuremberg
We awoke early this morning to get ready for the next leg of our journey. After breakfast and checking out of our hotel we went across the road to the main railway station in Frankfurt to board our train to Nuremberg. 1st class train travel is way more civilised a way to travel that economy class flying. Very quiet, luxurious and spacious with table service. The train was on time and we arrived into Nuremberg at 11.00am.
On arrival we walked through the town to our hotel which is situated right in the centre of the old town. The town was bustling with people, the shops were open and there were market stalls along the roads. The town square was also hosting a fresh food market. Whilst we didn't sample any of the produce it looked to be top quality.
After checking in to our hotel we went on an exploratory tour of the old town finding a number of interesting shops including antique shops, a bead shop, spice shop selling many varieties of mustard, many cafes, restaurants, clothes shops and pubs. We stopped for lunch at a Pub serving traditional German fare. Nicole had a roast pork loin with a dumpling, sour kraut and beer sauce. It looked and tasted delicious. I chose 'Nuremberg' sausages and sour kraut. This too was delicious. Following lunch we continued exploring the town. As always a number of photos have been uploaded.
Around 4.00pm we headed a little way outside the old town to the Justizpalast which was the location of the 'Nuremberg' trials immediately following WWII. The court room is still in use from time to time. The display is informative and comprehensive. Well worth the visit. Photos have been uploaded into a gallery.
We then returned to the old city for a dinner consisting of a fresh green salad topped with braised chicken. It was nice to just have a simple fresh meal.
We leave tomorrow to join up with the River Beatrice, our river cruise boat to start the 7 day Danube River cruise.
