CAPE TOWN (27th to 31st October 2009)
A largely uneventful trip down to Cape Town, other than the ostrich with suicidal tendencies that we collected on our bull bar at about 40km an hour. We ruffled her feathers a bit but happily she got up walked off into the bush without any visible side effects. The Beast was likewise fairly unaffected (the steel bumper and bull bar paid for itself!) and nothing much more than a cracked number plate.Luckily we were going so slowly!
Cape Town is just so beautiful, quite windy but sunny and wonderful to be here.We did our compulsory photo opportunity at Bloubergstrand with the mountain in the background and our little farewell with friends and family on the 29th was as enjoyable as Johannesburg. We saw many old friends and family that we don't see that much of.Our special thanks to Patrick and Brigitte who not only opened their Cape Town home to us but also hosted our party. Also special thanks to Lincon Zanella for his cooking and caiparinha!Wow that really puts hair on your chest!
Last day in Cape Town was spent with final packing and preparations especially on the car and enjoying the sights and sea in Simonstown - Southern Right Whales in False Bay, Penguins at Boulders and even a swim in the sea for John, Patrick and Lincon.
And now departure is almost upon us.Ten months in planning and preparation, and as we write this we are less than 10 hours from leaving the Mother City.
