After our couple of days in the national park we headed back to Kl. we had met a lovely Australian couple called Doug and Amy during our stay and we were pleased that they were also heading back to Kl with us. It took us a few hours travelling by boat and then miminbus to our destination, the boat trip was idyllic and very relaxing although this was followed by the worst mini bus ride ever, the driver was doing 125 km per hour around bends and thanks to (Australian Amy) relaying stories of crashes I in particular felt quite unnerved and was more than relived when we arrived in one piece.
Our Australian friends told us of their hotel that they were staying at so we decided to stay there with them especially as they sold it to us with the air con and hot water for only £18 per night!! The hotel albeit fairly basic (reminded us of an old boarding school) was fine and was centrally located in china town, right next to the market:)) - poor Joel!! That evening we headed out with Amy and Doug to a vegetarian Indian restaurant which was amazing and did a fantastic Paneer Masala. We then looked around some shops before heading back to our hotel for the night.
The following day we arranged our onward travel for that evening and then caught (the wrong train) to the Batu Caves which were located just outside of the city. When we finally arrived we were starving so we found another vegetarian Indian restaurant and then proceeded to mount the 200 plus steps toward the caves. The caves were very impressive and are currently used as a Hindu temple, at the entrance there is an enormous 43 m golden statue of the Hindu deity Lord Murugan. After taking numerous photos of the caves we headed back to china town to have another look around the market. I was extremely good and didn't buy a thing although Joel on the other hand bought some bright pink shorts, fake Mont Blanc cuff links and a fake Paul Smith weekend bag! We then made our way to the bus station for our onward journey.
