After climbing the winding roads to the cameron highlands our coach conveniently pulled up outside our hotel. As we stepped out we immediately felt the cooler fresher air which made a welcome change from the humidity. The town was pretty ugly but had beautiful hilly surroundings. After relaxing for a while in our nice hotel room we took a taxi to ye olde smokehouse - a mock Tudor English pub and hotel. The pub was exactly what you might find local to our home in England and was even decorated and furnished in a traditional way. The food was typical of an upmarket pub too but It did lack decent beer! We travel all this way and then go in search of something which we have on our doorstep!
The next day we arranged a tour of the local sites. We both enjoyed visiting the tea plantations which were planted over the rolling hills - a very pretty site. After climbing the steps on a look out tower at the highest point of the highlands (maybe even Malaysia) our guide took us for a walk through a mossy forest telling us about the different species and also survival techniques. I felt like we were out with Ray Mears! Last stop was a scottish family owned tea factory where we learned about the tea making process and afterwards all enjoyed a nice cuppa! That evening we had an Indian for dinner and set off by coach the next day to Kuala Lumper.
