We decided to walk to our hotel from the bus station with some directions from some friendly locals. There are two little indias in KL (Kuala Lumper) and we were staying near to the one within walking distance of the main sites. After another Indian curry we went back to our compact but smart modern hotel room and watched a film. Our hotel provided us with breakfast which included Murtabek - a kind of Indian bread served with a curry sauce. I had this with a boiled egg and rice which was delicious! We looked through the map whilst sipping on our coffees and decided to head down to Merdeka square via the central market which was an attractive arc deco building with lots of good shops and stalls. Once the focus for colonial life in KL Merdeka square had previously hosted cricket matches on the green. We loved the variety of architecture here including the quaint st Paul's church, mock tudor Royal Selangor Club (previously the spotted dog) and the beautiful Sultan Abdul Samad building. After a quick Look around a nearby museum we went to Chinatown to look around the market (much to Amy's delight) and have lunch. By now it was getting late so we returned to our hotel, relaxed for a while and set off on foot to the area renowned for its bars and restaurants. We didn't make it that far and shamefully ended up at the Hardrock Cafe about half a mile before the main drag.
KL has the largest walk in aviary in the world so on our last day we walked a few miles to the Botanical gardens where they are located. We spent an hour or two looking at all the birds from pigeons to ostriches; I also had my photo down with a few; Amy was taking ages to get the camera to work and i was starting to get scared that one peck me on my head! Turns out the camera was full so she quickly deleted a few pics and quickly snapped away before one attacked me. Indian food always seemed to be the cheapest so we jumped in a cab to the little India just outside the centre where we had a decent lunch for about £2! After lunch we took a train to the twin towers. We both loved these iconic skyscrapers which we both thought shone beautifully in the sunlight. It was a little too expensive to go up to the bridge on the 50th floor so we walked to the Menara tower instead. It was raining and i was constantly slipping on the pavement because my treads were wearing away which worried amy. I finally agreed that i would buy some new sandals at the next opportunity! It was expensive to go to the top so Amy stayed at the bottom and i went up alone. The panoramic views of the city were spectacular and it was clear that the city was rapidly growing with several new skyscrapers in construction. Later that evening we walked to Bukit Bingtang which we thought is a little similar to oxford street with loads of restaurants and shops. A finish bloke had chatted to earlier that day had recommended a trendy little restaurant down a bustling side street; After wandering around for hours eventually found it! There was a nice atmosphere and we both enjoyed our meals. The next morning we took a bus to Melaka which is further south.
