Friday at Pemberton and Joe's tree climbAnother cool and grey start to the day but it wasn't windy and the afternoon was very pleasant. The Gloucester tree is Pembertons claim to fame and of course Joe had to climb it. It is the tallest climbable tree in the world (60 metre)Originally it served as a fire lookout and it took 6 hours for the first man to climb but of course it didn't have rungs round it then.It took Joe 15 minutes up and down.I had to stay at the bottom to take the photos for you to see.We then took a 2 hour tram ride up the old logging track and that was very interesting. We decided to try to get to Augusta for the night and arrived at the van park at 6pm.A quick set up because we are only staying the one night and we were delighted to find we are only yards away from the Blackwood river so we went for a walk and the first thing we saw in the river only 3 feet from the bank was a ray I don't know what kind sting or flat or ??Of course we had gone out without our cameras so Joe dashed back to the van for them. While he was away a 2nd one came along but we only managed to photo and film the one. What a bonus to a very nice day.Augusta is the furthest south/west point in W.A. and the Southern and Indian oceans meet here.
