Saturday 8th March EsperanceA good day after a poor start.Last night as we drew up at the caravan park there was a loud clatter coming from the van.Investigation revealed that the cover had blown of one of the roof lights. It was badly cracked and beyond repair and of course we couldn't buy just the cover we had to buy the complete roof light $270.Luckily Joe was able to fix it himself. It has been overcast most of the day and the temperature has dropped from 44 degrees yesterday to 25 at the most today. We packed up a few sandwiches and drove about 50ks east to Cape Le GrandNational Park. For once the tourist descriptions were spot on and fully justified in using extravagant words to describe the beaches.Perfect, pristine, superb, dazzling white sand, startling blue water, nature at its finest definitely the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen.Esperance itself is a pleasant place with a small marina, a nice esplanade and small beaches.Sunday still at EsperanceLovely day and not too hot. After church we called at the French hot bread shop to buy our picnic lunch, Salad rolls and beautiful almond tarts for afters (the tarts 4 for $7) If you are ever in Esperance the French hot bread shop is a must.By the way we didn't eat all the tarts we saved two for tomorrow.I think we should have eaten them all because they won't be as nice the day after and we could have bought more tomorrow on our way out of Esperance. We went west today on the 40k great ocean drive.Beautiful beach after beautiful beach. We stopped at the most popular one Twilight Bay mainly because there had lifeguards on duty and an ice cream van on the car park.We actually went in the sea for about 5 minutes but was it cold.It is very deceiving with the hot sun, white sand and blue sea but of course that sea is Antarctica at the other side. The drive takes you past the Pink Lake and to be fair the official guidebook does say it is not often pink and the algae and other conditions have to be just right but it definitely was not pink today. As we approached we thought there was a hint of pink but then we took our sunglasses of and it was a steel grey/blue.Thank you for your contributions to the message board we value your comments and suggestions. If you have more personal/private news we can still pick up our ordinary e mails at [email protected] we bought a 3G phone and this acts as a modem for our lap top.Of to Albany tomorrow where we have booked
