We explored Alice Springs today; starting with a look around town. There were some lovely shops and I bought a lovely aboriginal painting on canvas, with a certificate of authenticity and details on the artist. We went over to the Royal Flying Doctor Service museum and were given a talk on the start of the service, shown a holographic film and had a look at the items on display. Woke up early to a sky full of stars. It was so peaceful and magical. We packed up camp and drove to King's Canyon. We took the main trail up to the top of the canyon and walked around the rim as the sun came up. There were some spectacular sights. We walked through to the garden of eden and had some snacks while taking in the view. We drove back to the campsite for lunch and then started the long ride to Alice Springs. 5 hours later, we arrived at Elkira Motel...

We got up very early, packed up camp, had breakfast and jumped on the truck to Uluru. We started the 10.6 km base rock in the dark and watched the sunrise from the base of Uluru. We were able to follow the walk at our own pace, rather than sticking together as a group. Uluru was magnificent. It is a sacred site and there are many rules under Tjukurpa law. Left Melbourne this morning and flew to Uluru. The view from the plane was spectacular; especially Uluru (Ayres Rock) as we approached the airport. We were picked up by our tour company in the afternoon and went straight to Kata Tjuta which means 'many heads' in the local language. We went on a short guided tour to the 'Valley of the Winds' where we stopped to hear a little of the culture of the Anangu people who have lived around the rocks for 30,000 years! We...
