Flew out of Phuket today and headed back to Bangkok. A nice lady I found on the Internet drove me to the airport for half of what the hotel was charging. I checked into the Bangkok Centre Hotel where my travel group was meeting. My roommate had already arrived and was showering when I came in. She is a mental health nurse in England. She quit her job in October and has been traveling around since. She just came from visiting her sister in Perth and wants to get a job there when she is done traveling.
Another girl in my group is from Calgary. What are the chances? She came here to train for Thai boxing. There are also four others from the UK and a couple from Switzerland. In total our group is 10 including our tour guide Albert. His home is Bangkok and he has been working this tour for 7 years. He is very knowledgable and I think he will be great. It is so handy to have a local guide. He can hail us a cab for cheap and tell the waitress in Thai about my nut allergy.
We went out for dinner as a group and then went to Khao San road. It is the backpackers street in Bangkok and it has a night market. Locals on the street were smacking their lips and saying "ping pong show?" I had been warned ahead of time by one of the other girls what this meant so I knew to say no. For those of you who don't know this is when girls shoot ping pong balls out of their vajayjays.
The shopping in this area was amazing. I wanted to buy everything. From shoes to shirts and jewelry. Really nice stuff. I only bought some loose trousers with an elephant print and a new purple headband though. There was lots of bars, clubs and restaurants. It was a real happening place. I would have liked to have spend some more time there but tomorrow I am off to Cambodia.
