Today the group did an island hopping tour. The view on the boat ride out was beautiful. The water here is so calm, it is like glass. We traveled by fishing boat to the nearby islands to go snorkeling. The snorkeling wasn't great, but there was some nice coral. It was refreshing to just get in and go for a swim. Today we traveled by bus to Sihanoukville, the Miami of Cambodia. Our hotel is the Golden Sands Hotel and is only a few minute walk from the beach. I dropped my laundry off at a tattoo place close to the hotel. The price is $0.75/kg!! We went down to the beach for lunch. I had crab and a coconut shake. The shakes here are so good! Today was a sad morning. We went to the prisons and the killing fields from the Cambodian genocide. First a bit of history. The Genocide was from 1975-1979 and killed about half of the 6 million Cambodian population at the time. A man by the name of Pol Pot was an intellegant man from cambodia who got a scholarship to study in Paris. He studied communism and became obsessed with it. Today was travel day. Thankfully we were able to sleep in. Got up, went for a swim and then walked to the bakery to get some lunch for the long bus ride. It is called a bakery but it's like a supermarket. I was able to sleep for the first few hours of the bus ride. After a pee break they put the Hunger Games on the TV. I really enjoyed that. Today we woke up at 4am to watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat. That's really early! But it was worth it. Angkor Wat means holy city. It was built 1000 years ago by the king warrior of the son. It was built as a place for hindus to pray. We also visited two other temples. One was the jungle temple. It has fallen apart because the jungle has taken over. The other temple was pretty, it had lots of Buddha faces. It was a really hot day though so it was hard to retain...
