Day 10 - stone town
Got up and had breakfast at our hotel then headed back down to stone town for the final day of the tour. On our way down our guide for Zanzibar, salima, asked everyone what they wanted to do that day and organised it for us. Michael and I wanted to go to prison island so salima made a couple of phone calls and organised t for us. We went down to the beach where there were two men waiting for us with a dhow boat to take us to the island. We had to wade into the water to get on it. On the way out to the island they put the sail up and let the wind take us out. It took about 30 mins and was very relaxing. The island was lovely. It has an old prison on it which was built for any slaves who done anything wrong, but ended up being used as a quarantine centre for people with yellow fever. They are now turning the prison into a fancy restaurant. So the reason we went to the island is because it has lots of giant tortoises living on it. Some of them are 150 years old! We were allowed to feed them cabbage and were massaging their necks which they apparently love. The boat on the way back was a lot different to the way there. We were going against the wind so had to use the motor. It was bouncing all over the waves, we got soaked! But it was fun. That night we went to an Italian for dinner, which was really good, then some of us went to a bar for drinks. It was a great night. Daniel (crazy Swedish guy) and Andre (crazy Norwegian guy) were the entertainment for the night. They were requesting songs and singing together loudly, in a quiet bar with only a few people in it. Michael and the two boys have become really good friends, so at midnight when everyone was heading home, they decided to go to a club together since it was the last night.
