After snoozing our alarms a couple of times we finally got up at 5.10am, way too early when your on holiday! It was pretty cold at that time of the morning and there was no hot water int he shower so it was a miserable and cold morning. We got a taxi to the hotel we were to meet ur safari tour group and leader at. We were offered free tea and coffee and when we agreed we were roped into a breakfast buffet that cost a tenner! But we were hungry and had no where else to eat.
So our tour guide arrived and we got to meed the 22 people we would be spending the next ten days with. After a quick induction we were put on the bus, which looks like a massive ice cream van, and started our ten hour drive to Arusha. This gave us plenty of time to get to know each other and to try and get some sleep, but with the state of the roads and the suspension it was pretty much impossible. So we are travelling with four ozzies, two new zealanders, one irish, one english, one american, one swede, and the rest are from norway. Everyone seems nice so far. We got through the borders with no problems and we were in Tanzania three hours later. We drove past mount Kilimanjaro, which just looked like any old scottish hill to me. There were hundreds of kids we drove by and they were all shouting hello and waving everywhere we went. We had a quick stop in Arusha town to get loads of water for our safari. We had a quick five minutes online here so sent an email home to let everyone know we are alive.
We got to the Arusha snake park soon after where we spending the night camping. The campsite was great. We pitched our tents under a tree for some shade and headed out to look around the campsite. So the campsite hapened to be in the middle of a snake and alligator farm. We had a look inside one of the snake enclosures to find it chasing a tiny cute wee mouse! The snake tried loads of times to constrict it but the mouse escaped everytime. After about 20 minutes the mouse was still alive, but I highly doubt it will be now. We were then looking at baby crocs. Some people from our tour were touching its tail to take photos, and after a few people one girl Anita put her hand down and the croc turned quickly and snapped at her. So when it came to my turn I was too scared! One of the keepers noticed I was scared and came over to help which ended up with us holding it. I was scared to but did it in the end and was feeling a bit brave. Then, since the keeper was enjoying my fear, he pulled a snake from a tree and got us to hold that too. I was trembling! Definitely got a snake fear haha. We then went to the bar. We loved it! It had flags and tshirts with messages and photos all over the walls, there was a gorgeous dog, the drinks were cheap, and they were showing the andy murray match! So we enjoyed a couple of African ciders while watching that. Later we were watching a coup0le of guys playing darts. When they finished we asked if they were down so we could play. We thought the guy was from Finland so where surprised when he said "aye on ye go pal" in a Falkirk accent! So we spent some time chatting to him and having a drink. After a few more we headed to bed to make sure we were fresh for our safari next day.
