We arrived in Alice Springs on Saturday 25th April. It is a really small town and we had a wander about but everything was closed for ANZAC Day. So we grabbed a bite to eat and had an early night as we are to get up at 4 tomorrow morning.
Sunday we were picked up from our hostel at 5am to start our 2 day Red Centre tour around Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Kings Canyon. We drove alot of te day. Stopped at Kings Canyon in the afternoon and did an hours walk in and around the Canyon. We then made it in time to an observation point to see the sun set over Ayers Rock. We made dinner at our camp site for the group and slept outside under the stars. It was absolutely gorgeous!
We were up early again on Monday morning to see the sun rise over Ayers Rock, this time from inside the National Park so a lot closer. We then did the 7 mile walk around the base of Ayers Rock which took around 2.5 hours, mostly because we were taking so many pictures. After Ayers Rock we went to The Olgas, which are large rock formations, and had a walk through it. We then had a 5 hour drive back to our hostel.
On Tuesday we flew from Alice Spring to Melbourne and stayed in the Holiday Inn at the airport (which was like the Ritz compared to where we have been staying) and got our flight to Sydney early on Wednesday morning. When we arrived in Sydney on Wednesday we had a look round the city and made our way to Balmain, where we are staying with Lynne's relatives.
