Tuesday 21st April we got the train from the centre of Melbourne out to Melton which is a suburb of Melbourne (bit like EK to Town and the same time on the train). Isobel and Robert picked us up from the station and took us back to their house. Isobel is my mum's cousin. Robert has worked in the Fire Brigade for 25 years and they have just built a new station in Melton, so we got the guided tour of it and got to sit in the Fire Engine. Then I went to take a photo of Grant and all the alarms went off! I thought I had set them off by walking over the line round the edge of the building but unfortunatley it was a real fire so we had to run aside while the guys went out. So we had a cup of tea instead. We then went to visit Isobel's daughter Kim who live round the corner from them.
On Wednesday the four of us went a drive and went along the Great Ocean Road. Not all of it as it's 151 miles long, but a good long bit of it where you can drive right along the coast. Apparently if you go along much further it is more inland and so you can't see as much anyway, so we seem to have seen the best bit!
Yesterday we went another drive to see some of the country. We stopped for a picnic and then drove on to Achuca. We went on a steam boat along part of the Murray river. You can go all the way from here to Adelaide along the river on overnight boats if you wish. The level of water is decreasing in the river because of the droughts. I said they could have some of our lovely Scottish rain in exchange for some sunshine!
That brings us to today! I went a long walk with Isobel, her daughter Kim and her sister mary this morning. Tonight a lot of the family are coming over as its Isobel's Grandson's 21st at the weekend and her sister Mary's Birthday today. So that's me going off now to help prepare some of the food for tonight. That's a laugh for those who know my limitations in the kitchen, but im sure there is stuff to be chopped that ill be quite safe doing - maybe!
Lots of Love Jillian and Grant xxx
