We arrived in Iguassu on a Saturday around the mid afternoon and decided that rather than do the Brazilian side of the falls straight away we´d just ´pop´over to Paraguay for a few hours and save the falls for another day as everyone needed to get sorted after the nightbus and we wanted to make the most of a sat night later on. A few of us took the mini bus across the border to the black market while the Beavs visited the hydroelectric power plant. It was mainly to add another country to the list.. though they didnt stamp our passport boo! Our black market purchases included more memory cards and to Jorge´s amusement, though not suprisement, a big bottle of vodka and redbulls for later, always prepared.
Must mention too/, highlight of the day: speaking to the parental unit haha. First time yet, very exciting. In the evening, we drank for a bit in the hostel first to save $$ and spoke to another gap group for a bit. Then we took a minibus across to Argentina to go out! This was only suppossed to take half an hour but someone (me) was already excited by that point and didnt realise we were at immigration so took a while to work out that was why they were one passport short haha oops. We all had a dead good night out.. Grant was a state by the end.. and me and Barn had escaped to hunt down food - where to our delight we found a street vendor selling double hotdogs, amazing!!
The next day we thought we had a lie in til 1 but Matt our mate we´d made at wayna pichu came knocking at our door to say hi .. at half 9!! so we ended up going to breakfast which was the best yet but wasnt really overly hungry argh. We then went to the Brazilian side of the falls and did a few hours walk around. There was an option of a helicopter flight but this was really expensive so we settled for the plan of doing a boat ride the next day. I really wasnt expecting the falls to be as good as they were but they were so impressive!
AFter an early night we got up about 7ish to do the Argentinian side.. we had been told previosuly this was the best place to see them from. We crossed to Argentina again (my passports gna be full of these stamps!) and got a truck to where the boat left from. We wizzed up the river towards the falls and although we couldnt go right up to the big ones at the end.. we went under some smaller ones several times and got absolutely drenched.. yess!!
We walked around for a few more hours taking pics etc then it was time to hit the road. me and grant got economical at the supermarket buying lots of bread and cheese for the journey so we didnt have to buy tea, breakfast or lunch the next day.. and they were real good! We had our longest mission yet.. a 16-17hrs bus ride to Sao Paulo and then another 6 hrs to Paraty.. the name game got us through! I think thats about it for now.. check u all later.. lots of love xx
