I embarked on an adventure onto Lake Titicaca which boarders Peru and Bolivia.
we set off in the morning and i met two english girls viki and Jenny, we set off by boat onto the lake. The first stop was Uros which are the floating islands. Here we saw how they build their island out of reeds that grow in the lake, they buid them up to create the island they live on, they also build their houses and beds out of the same reeds. the people who live on the island dress in bright colours that are amazing, they make jewellery and quilts and sell them to tourists to keep a living. The islands still have some residence but they are kept around for tourists i think as they amount of people who live on them are decreasing each year as children are leaving to go to school on the main land.
the next stop was the island that we were staying on for the night. We arrived after a couple of hours on the boat and we all got split into a few different groups and went off to where we would stay. My family didnt speak any english but they were beautiful, it was a dad with his daughter and his daughters two girls who were young, I think the husband left the daughter so she moved back in with her dad.. it crazy that its a different world over there but yet they deal with the same issues we do.
The night we dressed up in their local outfits and went to the local hall and had their version of a disco, was good fun, they tought us how they dance, it was a fun night.
In the morning we got up, had breakfast and said goodbye to our family. we got back on the boat and headed to the next island where we did a coastal walk which everyone said looked just like a greek island. We walked for awhile until we got to a place that we were having lunch. After lunch we kpt walking to the otherside of the island where we got the boat back to puno.
It was awesome to see how they live on the islands, i am really glad i got to experience it.
