Bonjour from Paris!
After the longest flight in history and a few delays due to fog I arrive in Paris! Silvia and I tackle the train system and somehow make our way into the city where I met up with Elley, Keira and shifty.
We grab a taxi to our hotel which is in Montmartre the Red Light District... After freshening up we head out for a wander. The streets are lined with sex shop, sex shows, tourist shops and kebab/crepe shops... we wander further out where we see cafes and restaurants filled with people. We make our way back towards our hotel which is right around the corner from the Moulin Rouge and on the way find a cafe with both English and French menu. We have a bite to eat at about 9pm with the sun still shining and then head back to the hotel for an earlyish night in.
Day 2- We wake up early get our Starbucks and head on our way.. First stop the Arch De Triomphe.. We get there by train and as we come out of the station there it is! This massive arch made of stone... it is impressive to say the least.. the Parisians driving are crazy as the hundreds of cars drive around this round-about (if you could even call it that) we make our way to the Arch, underground of course and jump the massive queue thanks to our museum passes and climb the millions of stairs to the top.. From the top you can see the Parisian skyline. We could see the Eiffel Tower amongst other landmarks.. We wander around, take some happy snaps and descend down to tackle the next landmark,, The Eiffel Tower!! As we approach the Tower it dawns on you how impressive it really is and a you get to the point where you are standing right in front of it you have this "holy s*** I'm in Paris" moment which of course makes you giddy and starts turning you into a snap happy tourist taking pictures from every angle. We got some crepes sat on the grass and admired this amazing landmark... this was of course followed by us then taking the typical tourist snaps to Shifty's disgust. After the Eiffel we decided to get our Art on at the Louvre.. Again we jumped the queue thanks to the museum pass and went straight in... Now people tell you it's massive and you can spend days there... well they are right.. It is out of control how big this place is.. but let's face it we were only there to see one thing and that is of course the Mona Lisa... we glanced at sculptures and scary paintings along the way but the Mona was the main motivation behind the visit.. We followed the signs and turned a corner and the packs of people hovering around this one spot told us we had found it... Now it is pretty amazing to see it as you hear so much about this painting and being a Dan brown fan it was pretty awesome.. We pushed our way to the front Aussie rules style with a hip and a shoulder here and a bump there and took our snaps and headed out.. The building and pyramids of the Louvre are just as impressive as the works of art inside.
From the Louvre we then headed in search of Quasimodo and the bell towers of Notre Dame.. After a few wrong turns and backtracking a bit we find it... being a Disney hunchback of Notre dame fan I was pretty excited by this.. I was waiting to see quassi and Esmeralda but unfortunately they didn't show.. However we did hear the bells ring and we all know that's Quassimodos job so I'm sure he was there haha. After Notre Dame we headed in search of Grande pantaloons from Shifty as tonight we had the Moulin rouge and he needed dress pants.. We again walk the wrong way and get some directions off a lovely French shop owner and head to the right area.. On the way we stop at a take away cart where we have the most amazing hotdogs ever!!!! We find the shops shifty gets his pants and we head back to the hotel.
After getting ready us ladies leave shifty to get ready and head to our roof top terrace for some champagne and to soak up the sun. The views are amazing. We head back down and over to the Moulin Rouge for some champagne, 3 course meal and of course burlesque! The show was great, good fun and really impressive, the food and champagne not so bad either.. After the show we head back to the hotel as we are all pretty spent and I am fighting a cold.
Day 3- We had a bit of a sleep in and then headed out to Sacre Coeur (I think) this is a massive church on a hill and over looks Paris. We got there and there was this massive ramp set up.. Upon further investigation we found out that some skateboarder was going to attempt this massive jump... good luck to him... we didn't get to see the attempt as it was the next night and we would have already left. We wandered around the church that had a mass going on and organs playing.. Was pretty cool to see. After the Church we headed to the Latin Quarter where we had a bite to eat and wandered around. After the Latin Quarter we headed back to the hotel where we got ready and headed to watch the sunset at the Eiffel tower.. We lined up for about an hour and headed to the second level... It was very high up and I was freaking out to say the least but the view was amazing!!! We watched the sun set over Paris and took it all in.. We made our way down the tower and it was all lit up.. This was AMAZING!! We went and got some dinner by this stage it was 10:30pm and after dinner we went back to the hotel and packed our stuff and went to sleep. Tomorrow we hit Spain!!!!
