Bonjour from Paris...
So Sarah and I get on the day train from Barcelona to Paris... It's a really pretty ride as the train wraps around the southern coast of France and then up through the middle.
We arrive into Paris at night... So we literally spent all day on a train watching movies and that's about it... there are for once no real train stories... although I did try and fool some French guys I was Swedish as the movies we were watching had Swedish subtitles... that's as exciting as the journey got... not very clearly..
We get into Paris and go to try and buy a ticket to Berlin for the next day... but as our luck would have it of late the ticket booth were closed so we had to try our luck for the morning... We walked to our hostel, Sarah got some Portuguese food on the way and then we literally stayed up talking to our American roommate then slept...
In the morning we hit breakfast and then got our stuff together, checked out and went to the station... lined up for tickets and luck has it... Booked out only ticket was over €350... No thanks... Sarah was like what do we do... I was like jump on anyway and play dumb... Good in theory
The train rolls in and they have people at every carriage checking to see your reservation as it is compulsory to have one in France even if you are on a Eurail pass like we were... so we walked down and found one guy that wasn't really checking.. We "helped" a lady with her bags and pram as a decoy to not be checked as our hands were full... Plan worked... We walked down a few carriages and sat in seats near the baggage storage... we were pretty much stow-aways... To say we were nervous was an understatement... Anyway the train rolls off and I said to Sarah ah well we will at least get to go to Koln as that was the first stop... And in Germany you don't need a reservation... Anyway the guy comes down and asks for our tickets... We give him our eurail passes... He then asks for the reservation and we play dumb... The blonde hair definitely came in handy... He then explains how its compulsory bla bla bla and we said but the guy checked when we were getting on and didn't say anything... Were really sorry we didn't know... €20 later we had a reservation and our own seat... he said he should have charged us €100 but it wasn't our fault so he let us off hahaha sucker... anyway next stop Berlin... You know for the third time
