Hola from Barcelona...
We arrive in Barcelona in the early afternoon get our bags and head for the airport train to take us into the city... we find our hostel which had been renamed so that was fun to find. We freshen up and I get a message from the Holmesy... "Hey just landed yeah, off to get my bag then find the train, where you at?" After not seeing her for five months I nearly wee'd a little with excitement.. So sezza got a tad bit lost and then I finally got the message saying she was at the Diagonal station... however there were many station exits.. I was at one and of course she was at another... I was standing near a tall spire monument.. So I said to sezza... "Can you see the giant penis in the middle of the road? I am there" to which she replied not yet but I will find it.. And typical of sezza she found it.. We were reunited at last.. After 5 months and 2 days.. So we smuggled sezza into the hostel, she freshened up and then we went to meet the other guys at a park near La Rambla. When we got there shifty was at the Hard Rock knocking back a few.. We then started walking down La Rambla which is one of the main streets in Barcelona that has bars, food, markets, street performers.. We wandered around the streets surrounding it where Sarah ate her first meal in Spain... a kebab! Typical! We then made our way back la rambla and looked at the markets where I got a few little knick knacks.. Then we wandered to the waterfront and had dinner... tapas and sangria.. Yummy.. We wandered back towards our hostel and stumbled across a street festival with bands playing.. We ended up spending the night here dancing and buying 1€ beer off dodgy spainoids out of plastic bags dancing to a band that we would describe as a Spanish version of Hilltop Hoods.. Mixed with a little bob Marley.. Another band came on and sang a Spanish version of the Clash's London Calling however instead sang... Bar-ce-Lona instead of London calling.. So we sung the clash version.. After a few beers and cocktails and feeling a little boozy we wandered back to what shifty and Keira thought was the direction of the hostel... sez and I however were sure it was the other way but as we are prob not the most reliable at directions we followed like good little sheep.. After about 20 mins we realised yep it was the other way.. So taxi time it was! We got back to our hostel still a bit boozy made Sarah's bed up on the floor and called it a night..
Day two- Woke up had breakfast, called home.. All the usual happenings of a morning then headed out into the huge city.. We had a hop-on hop-off bus for today so we went to a stop and hopped on.. There are 2 different loops and this was a great way to see all the sights of Barcelona as they are so spread apart and would take you forever to get around any other way.. We did the orange loop first.. This loop covered the Columbus monument, World Trade Centre, Olympic stadium, national museum, a bull ring that is now been made into a shopping centre and a few others. After the orange loop we had some food and jumped on the green loop.. This is the one that we were excited about as it had Gaudi's landmarks.. We visited the Temple De La Sagrada Famiilia, this is a massive church/temple that Gaudi started building/designing for many years before he was killed by being hit by a tram close by to it in 1926. This temple still is not completed, they are still working on it and working off Gaudi's clay moulds and plans that he had drafted before his death.. They are predicting another 10-30 years before it is complete.. It is an amazing church with unique architecture however it is spoilt a little by the gigantic cranes that surround it.. If you come to Barcelona this is a must!!! Next we went past a government building which was in the staple of what we could only describe as a dildo.. This then became the name of this building for remainder of our trip.. After the dildo building we went to Gaudi Park. This is where Gaudi's house and museum was. It has amazing mosaic designs among with walkways and seating.. It was breathtaking.. Sarah and I lost the others so we sat and listened to buskers for a bit and then walked to the highest peak where we had the most amazing views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. We made our back down where Sarah and I encountered a horrific moment that involved an old European man doing something completely disgusting and perverted... we will leave it at that.. However I will say that Sarah and I regreted not throwing rocks at the creepy old man.
We headed back on the bus and to the start of the route where we then hit up some shopping and of course we found an Aussie bar... in true Aussie fashion we sat and had one drink. We then kept making our way down La Rambla. We got a bit nippish so we shared a waffle.. it was lucky I had bought some new clothes as I ended up wearing half of the ice-cream on my face and clothes... we made our way to the water front.. By this stage it was 9pm and there was still a little bit of daylight left.. we got on a rickshaw (where you sit on a double seat and some poor sucker in the back peddles you along) we were cycling along when we come up to 2 other aussie girls so of course us all been aussies we raced... nearly running into people, poles, trees (our cyclist was as competitive as us) we won!!! Smashed them actually.. We got off at the beaches. It was just before 10pm and we went to a cool little bar and got take away cocktails we then headed to the water stepped out feet in the Mediterranean!! It was amazing.. We nearly got taken out by a wave but that was half the fun. We walked along the beach past the funky little bars.. We were taking funny pics which I will upload.. Drank our cocktail and then caught the rickshaw back to la rambla.. We walked our way back up before giving up and catching the Metro to our hostel.. Early morning tomorrow as we are heading to San Sebastian... 5:45am wakeup call eeek it will hurt.
