Again we have had a busy week and have been fortunate enough to see many national parks and sights throughout New York State. The weather has turned uncharacteristically warm and all the locals seem to be talking about is how strange it is to be so warm at this time of year and that they usually still have 6 feet of snow for another month which means all the ski resorts etc have had to close down early but it suits Jesse and I perfectly especially because it is much nicer taking horse rides out without rain, ice and snow. One of the places we have been to this week is a hidden gem called the 'Griffis Sculpture park' (mum, can this be classed as a museum that you always want me to go to?), this park has amazing sculptures made by several different artists and is spread out over acres of land which makes for a very lovely walk. We visited Scoby Dam near the town of Otto which has its own falls and we found crazy people fishing out in the water as you can see in one of the photos, it would have been freezing. Probably the most amazing place we visited was Letchworth State Park which is knows as the Grand Canyon of the East and had amazing, parklands, waterfalls and canyons and the best part is that it isn't overdeveloped like Niagara falls and other more well known areas. We visited Niagara falls and got to see them from three different places, Goat Island, the standard American viewing area and from the Canadian side which was by far the most impressive. While we were in Canada we traveled to a town called Ontario that isn't far from Niagara Falls and one of Alice's friends drove us around different Winerys where we had free wine tasting because he knows the owners and we were treated like royalty so we had a fantastic day. We also saw two of the five great lakes which were Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. It has been great having Stephie here to help with the chores and it is really funny because she is still working on her 'english' and she said she could understand me a lot better than she can understand Jesse and that he talks like he has something in his mouth, very funny. We had a big bonfire one night which felt like home and another night one of the girls who often comes to the Ranch took us out to dinner at an Italian place in Springville and we did some late night shopping because Walmart is literally open 24/7. I can't really decide if American's are lazy or just smart because they always seem to do things the easiest way and they even have drive through banks which is such a good idea. On Friday Todd's daughters got half the day off school because the winter was so mild that they didn't get their usual snow days so the school gives them half a day off every Friday for the month of March. They came and picked us up and we drove across the state border and into Pennsylvania which was beautiful, there are lovely little towns in Pennsylvania and it was great to see the differences from New York State. Jesse went squirrel hunting Saturday afternoon but it was raining so he didn't manage to catch any, they are going to go again this week if the sun stays out so we will hopefully get a taste of squirrel soon, its a shame we weren't here in the full hunting season for deer etc but maybe one day we will back.
