Our whole experience of Dallas can pretty much be summed up by the number 13. There was a man on our flight from Denver who was determined to talk to us the whole way and who told us that Texas is rough and that we would have to watch ourselves and stay safe. Upon arrival we got a cab to our hotel and got overcharged by a dodgy cabdriver but just paid it to avoid confrontation. We checked in and were given room 113 which automatically sent alarm bells ringing for Jesse who hates the number 13 but I assured him it would be fine and that we didn't want to be those annoying people who always complain about things. By the time we got to our room it was verging on dark so given the plane mans advice we decided to quickly walk 3 blocks up the road and get something from the servo for dinner. While we were walking cars would slow down and stare at us and beep and one car seemed to be following us so we ran home and locked the door and decided we wouldn't be heading out at night again (13). The next day we managed to work out the public transport and caught the 526 bus to the train line then got the green line into the city where we got off at west end station which seemed to be where all the ferals hung out so we got out of there as fast as we could. We found a subway for some lunch and the man serving said he could tell we weren't from Dallas becuase we were too sweet and hadn't abused him yet like everyone else seemed to do. We spent a while looking around the city but couldn't find anything interesting or any shops and locals told us it was pretty much just corperate buildings so I am glad we didn't spend extra to stay in the city and we got the train and bus back home again leaving unimpressed (room 13). On Day 3 we were determined to change our luck and would attempt to get to Arlington for a tour of the Dallas Cowboys stadium , we waited at the bus stop for 40minutes before one turned up then got to the train station 20minutes later and while buying another ticket we just missed the green line train so we waited another 20 minutes to get the next train then got to Victory station which was where we were meant to catch a different train to Arlington, we waited 30minutes then decided to check the timetable and another train wasn't coming for 1.5hrs which would mean by the time we got to Arlington we would't get to a tour and would be getting back at night time so we repeated the whole process to get home again, what you would call a very unproductive day (room 13). The best thing about Dallas was that Fort Worth was only 45minutes away when you can figure out how to get there. Fort Worth was great and exactly what we thought Texas would be like. We went to Billy Bob's which is the worlds largest Honky Tonk Bar which was massive and lived up to all our expectations. It had the worlds largest belt buckle(certified by the Guiness book of records) and there was an arena inside the Honky Tonk where they do professional bull riding on a Friday and Saturday night. Looking back we should have stayed in Fort Worth but maybe we would have enjoyed Dallas more if we had better luck. We can definately confirm though that Texas folk sure do say Y'all a lot and are the loudest Americans we have come across so far.

Candy Well I'm glad you eventually found something good in Texas!! I thought it really was the best state! Fort Worth would of been awesome to see. Have you read Lonesome Dove?
