The weather has gotten really cold and there has been snow everywhere for 2 days with temperatures around -6 (I have loaded a video for you to see). The snow plough comes three times a day to clean the entrance road and it has been too cold to do many jobs which is good because we have been inside in the heat. The pipes have also frozen making our toilet not work very well and the horses all have ice hanging off their chins and tails and their water troughs are completely froozen as well as the outside taps and hoses so we have had to cart some water out to them. I have worn plastic bags under my socks so my feet don't go numb and the ponds of water in the paddocks are almost iced over. The snow makes it look soo beautiful here and we are happy to be experiencing these winter conditions, we have coped surprisingly well. Amber did send me an article though that claims that Red-heads feel the cold more than others so that is my excuse. We also spent a day in a little town called Olean where they took us to lunch at Applebees which was lovely and then we did some shopping at a mall, on the way home we drove through Allegany State Park which had a massive lake that was frozen over, a little museum and some old style buildings. That night we went the 'Cattaraugus-Little Valley High School' to see their March concert which one of Todd's daughters sang and played the flute in, very cute. The following day things finally started to warm up and a dentist came out to fix all the horses teeth and it is safe to say that horses hate the dentist as much as humans do, one even had to be sedated which was interesting. Another man named Steve also came to the ranch to take us on a ride and because the dentist was there all day we didn't take off until after 4 and Jesse and I were thinking it would be about an hour but we didn't get home until 7 and ended up having to do the night feed for the horses in the dark so who knows if the right horses got the right food or not because at night they pretty much all look the same. Alice has told us that now we have had our lessons and know what to do we are meant to show the guests and take them on trail rides. As soon as it warmed up it got cold again and the snow was so heavy that after we fed the horses we got to go to a Gelleria shopping mall near Buffalo for a few hours which was massive and there are heaps of sales on at the moment for all the winter clothes even though I think that it is far too early to have spring clothes out because it is still freezing, crazy. We successfully took out a ride of 15 people who came as part of a social group that is run for people to get to know others in the area which was a bit crazy at times especially because the horses all had to be groomed and saddled up ready to go before anyone got here but the day was lots of fun and we had people helping us. We started at 8:30 in the morning to be ready for the guests at 1:00pm and after the ride they even tipped us which was different because we are so used to being the ones tipping others so it was a nice change. There are people coming and going from the ranch all the time so there is never a dull moment and it has been nice getting back into a bit of a routine and doing some work.

Suey Bec, The horses look a bit hard to keep groomed with their winter coats!
