Jen's Travel Diary
Wednesday - We left "Neptunes' at 10.30am and went to the bakery to get breakfast before heading out of our nightstop at 'Greymouth' to 'Hamner Springs'. After a 4h drive we reached 'hamner' which was where the thermal springs/pools were. But at $12 entry we decided to move on. I drove us along "Lewis Pass" whcih was very picturesque - lakes, rolling hills, mountains and very bendy roads. We got into 'Kaikora' on the east coast at 5pm and found "Dusty Lodge", our hostel for the night. It was $22 and in a good location, with very nice amenities (it even has a spa). After a bit of dinner we headed out to "The Strawberry Tree" for the quiz night. We did not do to badly as we recruited two Welsh guys to help us out, otherwise we would have been dreadfull!
Thursday - Today I have spent all morning on the computer. In the afternoon we met up with Annie and she came round to our hostel and we spent the evening chilling out watching DVDs.
Friday - We are driving to 'Nelson' today. On the drive to 'Nelson' we decided to stop at the seal colony at the top of the "Kaikoura Penninsula". The views back over the town we superb as was the view of the sea and the colony. The seals themselves were lying on the grass near the sea as the water was too cold for them and they needed a rest.
