Today saw us take a boat trip on the Steam Ship Earnslaw. The vessel is over 100 years old and well preserved. Originally the lake's only means of transport but is now used to carry tourists to the high country Walter Peak Farm, owned by a Scottish family until the 1960s. The farm is now a commercially run enterprise, drawing in the tourists all year. Although geared towards the kids we still had a brilliant time and found it interesting.
We fed the sheep, cows and deer, watched some sheep shearing and wool spinning, which is now coming back into fashion as a hobby and they are actually manufacturing spinning wheels again. Not something we will probably take up in the near future but did take me back to holidays in Wales when I was younger and remembered finding it really boring then - how we change.
The best part for us though, apart from the tea and scones around the big log fire, was the border collie, Storm, rounding up the sheep. So clever not a word spoken, just whistling, and the collie has even been trained not to bark. Amazing, must try and get Bumble on track when we get back.
Milford Sound tomorrow.
