Today we ventured to Two People Bay on the recommendation of a couple of people at the campsite and it turned out to be every bit as lovely as they had described.
When we arrived we popped into the visitors centre to read about some of the local inhabitants of the area before heading on around to the start of the walking trail. After a while of searching around for anything that even vaguely resembled a walking trail we headed back on up towards the visitors centre to check out where we were supposed to be going to. On the way we saw a few steps off to our left and decided to give it a go and sure enough we were eventually on our way around the top of the headland.
As we walked along the tree lined path we were treated to views of the beach out below us with the water lapping along the sandy shoreline while all around us the wildlife would spring to life as we got nearer to them. One such animal that couldn't get away in time however, was a Spiny Back Lizard that Laurie scooped out from beneath some shrubs along the pathway. This has become his new found habit since arriving in Australia and he was taught how to catch snakes and such like and he held it aloft like a trophy while we took a few snaps of the ugly thing!
We continued on around the path until we came to some rock pools at the water's edge where the waves splashed over into the calm water beyond. In the heat of the afternoon we thought that a refreshing walk through the water would be, well…..refreshing, but it turned out to rather more cold than we had bargained for and also a fair bit deeper. We waded around the edge of the pond and clambered over a few rocks until we were back onto the pathway again, which we followed for a few yards until it brought us out at Little Beach. Here we encountered the nicest beach we had seen for many months (and one of the nicest we had seen in Australia) with crisp white sand that crunched under our feet and crystal clear water that turned a dark turquoise as it made its way out to the sea. There were even a few people walking out from the water in their scuba gear just to complete this picture of paradise.
After many a longing sigh had been expressed in admiration of the beauty of the place it was time to head on back along the path and start making our way back. About half way along we came to some steps leading down to the beach and when we got to the bottom we discovered why we had been unable to find the walking track the first time. The remainder of the trail took us down the beach but instead of sand, we had compressed seaweed under or feet that squelched as we walked along trying not to lose a shoe as our feet disappeared deep into the mire with every step.
Once we had navigated our way along this final stretch we were back where it had all began and we started back to the car, when we came across a family at one of the BBQ areas that had discovered a bandicoot in the plants around them. This was yet another first for us as we caught a glimpse of this strange animal that looked like some sort of rat / possum hybrid.
When we got back to the campsite we thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of some of the facilities that were so rarely at our disposal and we all headed for the heated spa for a good while before spending the evening in the theatre room with a film, a few beers and the obligatory nibbles!
