Up early (again!) for train from Hue to Hoi An, Sal insisted on a taxi from the hotel to the station (227mtrs, according to google maps!) resulting in one very pissed-off cabbie, even though we tipped him handsomely to compensate, never satisfied, some people!
Whilst in the waiting room, a Vietnamese lady told me I was 'very handsome' and said Sal was 'beautiful', this is happening a lot, we could get used to it! Everyone at home, take note, we'll expect you to compliment us 'Vietnamese style' on our return!
After testing my recent surgery whilst getting the bags onto the train (no platforms!), we struggled down the aisle to our seats, and quickly realized there was nowhere to stow our baggage, nightmare! The rest of the carriage, predominantly locals, 'plumped up the cushions' to enjoy the show! We managed, however, and a couple of lovely local girls even helped us sort things out.
Highlights of the trip included; 'Rail TV' ( Vietnamese pop and classical music, and commercials), a little fat boy with an incredibly noisy electronic toy, our new Vietnamese friends giving us a little gift (we thought it was soap, turned out to be a rice-cake!), and the best looking food trolley we've ever seen on a train! This particular train journey is famous for it's spectacular views, and despite the grimey windows, they were pretty good!
After an efficient transfer to our hotel, we chilled out on the beach, before having lunch ($10.50 for a club sandwich, outrageous! We're leaving!)
We're going into town tonight to eat, and to have a look at the many Tailor's that Hoi An is famous for!
