The girls hawking stuff to tourists can be very funny, we were sat at a restaurant fending off countless hawkers between courses, and a girl tried to flog us 'lucky coins from the year you were born', by this point, the novelty was wearing off, so Sally-Anne replied 'oh, I've forgotten what year that was!', the girl replies, 'yes, it was a long time ago..!' ha haa!
The restaurants and the hawkers would appear to have an agreement that trying to sell stuff to tourists is ok, as long as you're left alone when you're actually eating. At one restaurant, a bloke who was kind of helping clear the tables, wanted to 'recommend his village' to us, when we'd finished our meal. We had sussed out the form, by this point, and ate very slowly, hoping he'd get bored and disappear, no such luck, however! He just came over and laughed as I cut a piece of banana into ever smaller pieces! He knew this trick, and as the last piece of banana passed my lips, he pounced 'may I now recommend my village..!'
