Day 35 - 23 May - logistics day getting to New York City. Up at 5.30am (easy in Scotland at the moment as it gets light around 4.30am) and off to Edinburgh Airport - 3 hours before take-off - required because of the anxious American approach to homeland security. It all went smoothly enough although I got pinged because the liquids in my toilet bag were in 2 plastic bags - not 1 bag as required! The flight with United was good - although the plane, an old Boeing , had seen better days. I guess we’re getting to be cognoscenti when it comes to long haul jet travel.
At Newark Airport we managed to slip past the US Immigration quite easily - especially after we were put in the “disability” line. What! Is this the future?
Then it was a taxi ($100incl tolls & tip!!) over the Hudson River and into the Big Apple and our hotel - Times Square Yotel. We dumped our bags then wandered down to Times Square to watch the scene. Best screen adverts I’ve ever seen, ridiculous street performers, lots of noise, a few beers at the Bar Below with all the pre-show theatre crowds, then a meal (Italian veal & greens) and then we staggered back to the Yotel and sleep, glorious sleep.
