Day 36 - 24 May - one full day in NYC. We weren’t really interested in a deep dive into NY - just a quick skim before our road trip starting tomorrow. We started with a great breakfast at a nearby Deli - pancakes, sausage and eggs over easy plus lashings of maple syrup for me, corn beef hash and eggs for Seft, Anna had a bagel. (Lit of gym time coming for me)
So then we did the HopOn- HopOff bus trip to get an overview - and it was good. We stopped off down the south end of Manhattan at Battery Park, wandered round in the green space and looked our to the Statue of Liberty. It reminded of our waka race back about 2014 when Sal and I won 2nd prize in the Hawaiian Airlines NY Outrigger Canoe race - back when we were international athletes we paddled down the Hudson River, up the East River to Brooklyn Bridge, back down the East and over round the Statue if Liberty, then back up to the start line on the Hudson. Just about killed us.
We ghen wandered up the road a bit to see the 9/11 Memorial (see pic) - unfinished when we were here last. Couldn’t help but realise that while 3.000 died here back in 9/11/2001- this stat pales somewhat against the fact that more than 1million Americans have died from the Covid virus.
We had some lunch, hopped back on the bus, back to Yotel and a siesta and
blog time.
Later it was up, walked back to Times Sq, found the Encore Pizza recommended by Sam & Danel - I had a Suprema and yes they make great pizzas. This was all washed down by a beer , poured by a KiwiAmerican boy - who was very happy talk New Zild for a while. Back to Yotel (in the rain), bed early gof the early start tomorrow morning.
