Jan's Travels
Can certainly tell we were in the desert, 105F! The campsite was very dusty and thinking that bringing a nice cream handbag was a very bad mistake! It was so hot, don't think I've sweated as much in my life before.
Went to Arches National park which was excellent. Just lots and lots of red sand stone with amaxing rock features. Walked up to the Delicate Arch, felt very brave especially as there was a wee bit of heights involved. Also walked through park Avenue, passed the time by teaching Karen some songs! The boys also helped by singing Korean songs. I'm surprised there weren't any falling rocks the noise we were making.
At night Emi took us to a point overlooking Dead Horse Cnyon. We watched part of the sunset which was lovely before heading back to camp and going to the pub.
Moab was a very strange wee place, the first bar we went to was Woody's, so stereotypical American. Pool tables and shady folk with gotee beards. Had a good laugh before heading to Rio's, a Tory Club like place with the weirdest bunch of people I've ever seen. To top it off there was a Regee band playing - strange or what?!
Oh...also being in the state of Utah, which is run my Mormons, you can only buy 3.2% beer. I can safely say I wasn't nearly tipsy that night.
The next day only 5 of us went back to Arches and did a 7 mile hike called Devils Garden, now I know why! I really though I was going to die, had to drink boiling hot water and climb over rocks and walk in the sand - great achievement but tough!
At night we went on a hummer tour in Hell's Revenge park (what's with all the sadism). It was a great tour, climbing up rocks which were at a 60o angle, thought were going to fall backwards. Also going down vertical slopes and on 3 tyres. Got to watch the sunset from a really nice viewpoint.
