Jan's Travels
Well we're off!
Started with a sad farewell in Edinburgh but was cheered up by star spotting at the airport. Followed Colin from radio one around for a while beofre Karen plucked up the courage to speak to him!
Arrived in New York and had our first expereince of the subway, coped...just....4 bulky bags and quick shutting doors....! Eventually found our way to the hostel. Staying in a tiny room with 12 beds squeezed in. No room for all the luggage. It's clean though. I'm already fed up with all the unpacking and repacking every morning...locking everything.
On Tuesday walked about 70 blocks and eventually found strawberry fields in Central Park, a tribute area to John Lennon. We then walked further and on to meet Berneen and co. It was great to catch up. They took us to the Empire State Building, unfortunately it was pretty cloudy but the view was still great! We got to go to the 86th floor, ears popping all the way.
After they left we walked to Times Square and took in all the sites. Could sit and people watch for hours. We managed to get tickets to see Beauty and Beast on Broadway. It was a good show with excellent special effects and scenery. Both Karen and I neary fell asleep though, jet lag kicking in?
Today we've been to Battery Park, the statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge. After deciding to walk across the bridge to Brooklyn, it started to rain then thunder and lightning.
I feel as though we have walked the length and breadth of Manhattan so I think we're off for a lazy day in the park tomorrow and catch up on some sleep before we start our tour. Hoping it's not going to rain so we can get started on those tans?!?!?!
