Jan's Travels
Still in Colorado. Headed to Ouray, an area named after an Indian Chief who tried to keep peace in the West.
Emiko warned us to start drinking lots and lots of water becausee of the change in altitude. My ears were popping like mad and my fingers became very chubby! We were at an altitude of about 11,000 feet.
Most of us (Sam stayed at the bottom) went to walk up one of the nearest mountians. Didn't think I was so scared of heights until we had to drive up a wee road, snaking round corners with a sheer drop on one side! Also found a fear when I tried to do the walk and had to turn back. We walked the Ampitheatre mountain but the track was full of loose slate and I was terrified I would slip down- I remember struggling up the Eildons and Grey Mairs tail! Felt like a complete failure!
Walked aorund the town of Ouray after and got caught in a freak hail storm, the hail was the size of maltesers. beginning to think that bad weather is following us! The only good point of the storm was we got stuck in a liquor shop!! No wonder the guy ID us, the noise and carry on we were making.
We were supposed to stay in Ouray that night but we all decided that we couldn't face another storm in the tents so decided to drive to UTAH instead.
