From Grand Junction we were headed towards The Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. This leg of the road trip took us through Arches National Park and a few other towns with great hosts as usual.
Arches National Park was a good, fun day of looking at rock formations and at the end of the day we were treated with a spectacular lightning storm in the distance. Lightning storms are a daily occurrence in Utah but this one was even more extreme than usual. When we go to Price, our rest stop for the night, we found the whole town was out of power. Poor Nathan, our host, had never had a power outage before and didn't really know what to do with us. The kitchen was electric so we didn't know if we were going to be able to make dinner and the few candles he had didn't seem to want to work so we sat around with some wine and waited in the dark. Luckily Nathan was full of very impressive life stories so it was a blessing in disguise.
Onward from Price, Nathan recommended his favourite hike near Salt Lake City up to a beautiful secluded alpine lake with a very impressive view.
Our last stop before the big National Parks was Logan with Daniel and Melody, the sweetest couple who had just got back from their honeymoon backpacking through the Tetons.
