From the big Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks we wanted to make our way to the coast to see some big trees. This involved quite a few stops, a bunch of National Parks and some great hosts.
First stop was in Idaho Falls where we stayed with Sam in his RV out the front of the house. Sam was a very tidy, interesting guy with some fantastic stories from his couch surfing experiences - you'll have to ask us to tell you some day. The RV was surprisingly spacious and well equipped, perfect for couchsurfers such as ourselves.
From Idaho Falls we drove to Boise via Craters of the Moon National Park and some waterfalls. In Boise we actually had a house to ourselves, since our host was away at a wedding, and for some crazy reason had no problem with strangers hanging out in his house.
From Boise we passed through Eagle Cap Wilderness where some random people in a campsite drew us out a very sketchy map with incorrect directions and sent us out for a hike for the day. We were apparently in a hunting area and were more interested in trying to find the hunters than the wildlife they were hunting.
The night was spent with Scott and Cherami in Kennewick, Washington. They are a lovely newly, married couple with a baby on the way that actually met by couchsurfing. Cherami was passing through Australia and stayed with Scott while she was there and the rest is history.
The next day we drove through Ainsworth National Scenic Area where we hiked up creeks and behind beautiful waterfalls for the day. We ended up in Portland, Oregon, and stayed in a "community" house where the ten or so occupants grew their own vegetables, claimed to all be parents of the two year child that ran about the place and clothing was optional.
