We flew from Calgary to Toronto early in the morning, which required a 4:50AM wake up. We made it on to the plane, still bleary eyed after some final refuelling dramas for our rental car, which we just returned.
We had two nights to explore this huge city and we used the Air BnB website to source some accommodation, ending up paying to stay in a girl's apartment for our time there. Toronto seemed like a pretty lively place, and we never had to try very hard to find ads for upcoming festivals and events. We happened to be there during the Toronto round of the Indy car racing series, which we were able to sneak a peek on to the street circuit that had been set up and watch the cars go by. We also scored free entry to the main art museum which was showing a display of Henry Moore and Francis Bacon works, which we felt quite lucky to see.
Toronto on the whole, to us, was just a big city. There wasn't anything mind blowingly awesome or crummy about it. Certain people may really enjoy living there, since there seems to always be something coming up soon, but as a tourist destination we probably wouldn't recommend it to others as it doesn't really have much to differentiate it from other cities that we could see.
