Helllooooooo!
Finally in the States! It was quite sad to leave central America, especially because me and Debbie were one of the last to leave so we saw everyone leave first! On the last night there was just 5 of us left out of the 16, so me, Debs, Clare, Eli and Sean went to the mall to get some food and watch a movie. It was a nice night, with funny film, until we get back to the hotel to fine that me and Debbie had flooded the hotel! The water was off when we left, and we had tried the taps and then accidentally left them on as it wasn't clear which way was on. Trust team special vessel eh! The water was about two inches deep and had come right out into the reception area. We were so lucky that none of our stuff was damaged! My ipod was on charge on the floor but I had put it on top of my book, so only my book got wet phew!
We managed to get our flight ok the next day, despite the neverending security checks! I knew it as bad going into the USA, but they were more strict than I imagined. We bought some little bottles of rum in costa rica airport from the duty free, once we landed in fort lauderdale we had to collect our backpacks and put the rum in there then recheck the bag! Even though it was drink bought after security, we couldn't take it on the plane. I got my first ride in a yellow cab once we landed in Chicago, that was fun!
We spent our first day just getting ourselves settled. I've posted a parcel home of a few bits, so Mum expect that. We hadvto visit Urban Outfitters of course! it's do cheap over here, I never realized it was an American brand, plus the dollars down so it's even cheaper!
We went to the hard rock cafe for some dinner last night. We went with the view that Chicago was the original one, an I don't know why we thought that! The menu told us that the first one was in London, haha! Ah well, we still got some good cocktails. After dinner we went to the nearest bar with live blues and jazz. It was this cute little underground bar, called something like the wonder underground bar. We said we would go in for one and have a quiet night, but the music and atnmosphere was amazing and we stayed until close. This girl sung some opera and then some folksy tubes, she had the most amazing voice. SHe was only 14 but didn't look it. The rest of the night a Brazilian band played, the drummer gave us his Cd at the end, he was so happy we were from Britain. I also met an American wearing a LFC top, strange!!
Today we managed to get a lot done, despite being exhausted! We rode the 'L', which is an elevated train over the city. We walked around millennium park and saw the giant bean, which Is in the pic above. You can get some pretty awesome pics from the bean!
We strolled around navy pier and listened to some live music. We ate a lot of junk food, oops, but it was ben and jerrys! We found a restaurant called bubba Gumps shrimp restaurant! There were signs on the table saying 'run Forrest run'. I got myself a bubba gjmp goodie since I lost my Glasgow one in the flood. It's needed here since you won't be surprised to know Dad, it's freezing! They have an obssession with air con! Plus it's not humid like the rainforest!
We went up the Willis (Sears) tower for sunset. It was amazing to see the city light up for the night. It is the worlds tallest tower if you include the masts that they have on top, and the views are amazing. You can see four states from the top! There's a few sections that jut out a bit with glass bottoms so you can hover over the city. I could just imagine Grannie panicking as I stood on then like she did on New York haha! It was a bit nerve racking being on the glass though!
Anyhoo early night tonight, we've booked onto a free walking tour with the hostel tomorrow morning, and then we are going to watch the fireworks on navy pier tomorrow night. Lots to do!
Glad all is ok at home! Love lots xXx
