We stayed in a resort called Kata in Phuket. The guest we had was lovely with really friendly people, who were quite willing to make us breakfast at 2 in the afternoon - we got a discount on the room because it had no windows, hence not waking up till mid-afternoon! The beach here was really nice. A little stingy when you went in the sea. We later found out that these were sea lice biting us. A short walk down the road and we were in Karon, another resort in Phuket. We spent most days at this beach because the waves were awesome. Jamie went body boarding while Rach tried to master the art of standing up in the sea. Some great seafood places along the beach here too. One night whilst eating here, the heavens opened - into our restaurant and soaked most people sat in there. Although funny to us, it didn't seem to impress the couple sat behind us who had just had their freshly cooked king prawns soaked. The nightlife wasn't exactly what we were hoping for here. More for the western men in a mid life crisis. We headed over to Patong after a few days (still in Phuket), for the songkran festival. Although this is the hottest time of year for the Thais and a major water shortage in the country looms, they deem this the best time to have a mass water fight. For the whole weekend we were there, we didn't manage to stay dry once. Saturday night was loads of fun as we took up a bunker in one bar, armed with water guns ready to soak anyone walking past. We had a really good fight with the four lads next door. It was only later we realised why the bar was giving away free water for the pistols - it came from the toilet! The nightlife here was again a little seedy to say the least.
