The day we left Mildura was the real day of the locusts! As we were driving along the highway towards South Australia, the locusts started to appear more and more frequently, hitting the van like hailstones, until eventually it was like a black cloud outside and that was all we could see. We had never seen anything like it before. It was so bad that we were having to stop every 2 minutes or so to wipe the windscreen clear of the dead carcasses, and ti scrape them all off the vans radiator. It was definitely a new experience.
Renmark was a pretty little town, which we both preferred over Mildura. The town also sat on the Murray River. The time spent here in Renmark was also pretty uninteresting. Spending a week job hunting around the town, reading and eating lots of cheap noodles and soup! But, we did meet some really nice people whilst staying here though. All, old retired Australians travelling around their country in their huge caravans that made our van look like a mini, but all really helpful and wanting to give us advice about Aussie and camping etc etc, and also one guy who treated us to a few beers.
After still being unsuccesful on the job front, we decided we had to drive to Adelaide. Being a city we figured we'd be able to find a job a lot more easily than in these small towns. At least one to keep us going until the citrus season began...
